The Vision Behind the Movement
We are rewriting the narrative of African gastronomy. Discover the story, the passion, and the people driving our continental food sovereignty movement.
We’re a Pan-African network of chefs reclaiming Africa’s food systems, celebrating our culinary heritage and transforming how food is produced, valued and shared.
From Addis Ababa to the Global Table
Our journey began at the First African Chefs Gathering and Policy Convening in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, hosted by the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA). Culinary artists, farmers, youth leaders, and policymakers from across the continent gathered with a shared realization. African food is more than a meal on a plate. It is an expression of memory, spirituality, identity, and profound cultural heritage. We launched this movement to ensure that our culinary arts are celebrated rather than marginalized, putting our living soils and ancestral knowledge back at the heart of daily life.
What We Stand For

Mission
To mobilise African chefs as custodians of culture and catalysts of change who reclaim, celebrate, and defend African foods, indigenous ingredients, and farmer-managed seed systems, from the kitchen to the classroom, the farm, and the parliament.

The Values That Guide Every Dish and Debate
Food Is Sovereignty: Reclaiming our cuisines is completely inseparable from reclaiming our political, economic, and cultural agency.
Chefs Are More Than Cooks: We are proud educators, storytellers, and passionate advocates for our communities.
Youth and Women at the Centre: Women and young people are the true custodians of our heritage and the brilliant innovators of tomorrow.
Decolonisation in Action: We deliberately challenge the policies and imported narratives that attempt to displace authentic African knowledge.
Living Traditions: We honour ancestral traditions while boldly reimagining them through modern creativity and joyful adaptation.
